So many ways to volunteer! If you want to hop right in to something, be sure to check out our Events page to see when you can drop in! Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates. All of our events are open to the public, with the exception of classes which are sometimes pay-to-participate.
3rd Saturday of the Month Work Parties! 10-2pm All Welcome!
Beacon Food Forest has been run by volunteers since it began in 2010. Core volunteers have self-organized into committees that meet regularly and communicate via Slack and/or email. You are welcome to join any of these meetings or join our Slack channels to get more involved- feel free to just observe and ask questions! This is a great place to get to know our core volunteers and see how our work is organized behind the scenes. Check out the team descriptions below and contact us if you want to learn more about a specific team.
Site Development
Our largest team. Most regular volunteers get on the “SiteDev” email list. Those who want to step into a leadership role attend SiteDev meetings to plan out work parties and other activities.

Education
This team plans classes and workshops at Beacon Food Forest, as well as other education initiatives such as signs on site. Volunteers either teach classes themselves or hire educators.

Community Care
Our Community Care group works to grow community from within and without the inform the wider community of our activities, partner with other organizations, populate our social media, and develop recommendations for our organizational culture.

Pollinators +
This group works on expanding native pollinator habitat on site and educating folks on the importance of native bees, flies, wasps and birds and other critters to our Food Forest ecosystem.

BIPOC Garden
This team works to grow plants and foods that are culturally relevant to the BIPOC community, while also working to create space for people of color within green spaces.
Team meets via zoom every third Tuesday, from 6:30pm - 8pm.

Native Guilds
This team cares for a part of the Food Forest that is dedicated to re-creating wetland, forest, and prairie habitats of the Pacific Northwest. At the heart of our guild is learning about the relationships that plants have had with people and each other since time immemorial.

Grantwriting & Fundraising
As a volunteer-led organization, we are always looking for funding opportunities to help us move our vision forward. We need people with interest and/or skills in this area which is so important to our success!
Meets as needed to coordinate grants and fundraising strategy.
