The Wonder of Worm Bins

  • Beacon Food Forest S Dakota St Seattle, WA, 98108 United States (map)

Let Worms Eat Your Garbage! Rowan Maya Lang, Master Composter/Soil Builder and worm lover, takes you on a journey into the heart of darkness (in the worm bin). You will learn how to set up and maintain a worm bin, see various kinds of containers, and work on the bin at BFF. We'll also discuss how to harvest worm castings as a valuable soil amendment, and meet some of the other creatures that make up the worm bin community of decomposers. We will get to take an up-close look at a healthy worm population, learn about their life cycle, and search for the Golden Egg. Worm bins are a great way to get children involved in the garden! Worms will be available for students to take and home and start their own worm farms with. Bring gloves or plan to get your hands dirty, bring a water bottle and snacks, and dress for the weather.
